Lebanese Wines

Lebanon, one of the smallest countries in Asia, on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean, has one of the world’s richest winemaking histories, dating back to 7000 BC. Lebanese wine tells a story of perseverance and adaptability; through the rise and fall of empires, viticulture has endured, and while the varietals in the country today may not be the same as they once were, the fertile soil remains.

Lebanese wines are progressively varied, ranging from traditional sweet monastic wines to complex and structured vintages. Blends are very popular, with many wines being made to drink five to 20 years after production. Château Musar and Kefraya are especially known for this method and are two of the leading Lebanese wine producers.

Sumac is proud to present you with our exclusive and extensive Lebanese wines selection from different regions.

Arak

Arak has evolved from the Lebanese invention of alembic distillation in the 12th century. Many centuries after its introduction, arak continues to be the most famous distilled drink of people all over the Middle East and for those who embrace its heritage.

This delicious white spirit has been made in Lebanese villages for centuries. Selected from the finest grapes and aniseed, Arak undergoes four distillations to ensure optimal purity.

The most common way is to mix Arak with water (it turns milky white) and serve it in a traditional small glass with an ice cube. For those who can take the strength, arak can be served straight. The strength of the drink is why its nickname is “the milk of lions”.

Arak is our traditional Lebanese drink, known to be a perfect sipping drink that pairs perfectly well with our Lebanese cuisine and traditional mezza.
